Thank you everyone for a fantastic Concert Series

We want to thank all the bands, the many many sponsors, vendors, and the arts commission for putting on a fantastic concert series this year.

We especially want to thank the fans, without you the concert series would have no reason to exist.

Have a wonderful rest of the summer and we hope to see everyone (and more) back next year!

Haphazard: Barefeet and Rock n Roll

We started the night with perfect weather. The band took the stage, and Haphazard started off with Jo’s voice. I’m not writing a lot about the music because it’s simple to know where the talent is: New country and Classic Rock: Haphazard can play anything, but with the talent on the band and Jo’s powerband lows if the music fits the band, then please play more of it! There was the B-52’s ‘Love me when I’m gone,’ Gretchen Wilson’s ‘Here for the party,’ and Ozzy Osbourne’s ‘Crazy Train.’ All I will definitely note were sung barefoot on a concrete stage in the middle of a city park woods.
The guitar solos were amazing, plus although Dave was injured he still ripped the strings out the instrument with his solo leading into The Kinks ‘You Really Got Me.’
The night was perfect and the band was amazing. Barefeet and Rock n Roll: Thanks Haphazard!

A night with Rhythm Section Jazz Band

Thursday July 16th we had the opportunity to experience great jazz under the trees with a crystal blue sky. The Rhythm Section Jazz Band provided the players, instruments, and Francesca Amari’s voice. The night was filled with complex sounds and a light dusting of Jazz history. The band eventually closed out the evening, but the spectators can still hear the music.
Thank-you Rhythm Section Jazz Band for a night that will not be forgotten.
Thank you for coming back to our site. Don’t forget to post comments on your photos. The contest starts at midnight July 21st and the first posts get a gift certificate to The Outlaw Bar and Grill.

Backwoods Thunder: What a night!

Thursday July 9th was a beautiful night, and we all had the pleasure of listening to Backwoods Thunder. The brand new dance floor quickly filled up with dancers as the night continued. The band rocked and rolled.
Blair Kay took up lead vocals, Jeff Sayers lead guitar, Chad Flores on bass, and Jeff Toliver on drums.
All the music was fantastic, but we were quite fortunate to hear two songs written by the group: ‘Kickstart’ and ‘Get Me Some.’ The band made mention they will be presenting these songs to radio stations soon, so we were quite fortunate to hear them before they go Big!

Backwoods Thunder continued

The band played for two solid hours and were very easy to work with since we had some drawings and announcements in between their performances. We counted 385 attending the concert and called the band back for more after their first exit.

Backwoods Thunder is a great group. The sound was high energy and quality. Blair’s voice mixed well with the instruments, and never was lost. We especially enjoyed Jeff Sayers bending and twisting with the guitar. Chad Flores also knows how to move while getting into his bass. Another fantastic night that was over way too quickly. Very very sad to see the night end.

Thanks Guys!

Beach Party with the Decibel Doctors

The first impression I had of The Decibel Doctors was their compact setup. Three guys, lights, and sound all handled from their stage. This in no way detracted from the quality of performance, the efficiency hyped the night’s energy and made the audience feel like they were part of the performance.

Sean on drums, Rusty on Bass, and Terry on guitar.

Beach Party with the Decibel Doctors continued

The band started immediately with Grand Funk Railroad’s
‘We’re an American Band’ which fit well as it was Independence Day!

Creedence Clearwater Revival’s ‘Mustang Sally’ was led by Sean’s exceptionally strong vocals. I like drummers who sing and although difficult, the product is very enjoyable when executed correctly.

This was followed by many songs including Elvis’ ‘Jailhouse Rock’ with Rusty on main vocals,
Green Day ‘When I come around,’ with Terry as main vocal.

Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Sweet Home Alabama,’ Van Morrison’s ‘Brown Eyed Girl,’ The Knack ‘My Sharona’ FUN FUN FUN!

Led Zeppelin’s ‘The Ocean’ stopped at the end, but I could have listened to that sound all night long.

So many songs to cover and not enough time. I will leave with this statement: The Decibel Doctors are fantastic. The harmony is strong and mixes well with their instruments. The music is just plain fun, and the band members are all artists.

I hope to hear them again soon, and was very sad to see them pack up.

Thanks for a great night!

Nowhere Band

On June 25th we had the fortunate experience of listening to over two hours of Beatles’ favorites from Nowhere Band. The harmony and instruments played nicely to a good sized crowd who sat comfortably amongst the trees and in view of a blue cloudless sky.

We heard among others: “Nowhere Man,” “If I Needed Someone,” and “Ticket to Ride.” As the night continued on we were slowly over taken by the music, and as the show neared closing the requests were coming in very fast.
The band closed on a very strong note with the greats: “Back in the USSR,” “Twist and Shout,” “Let it Be,” and of course “Hey Jude.”
Nowhere Band will be back at 5:00 pm Saturday on July the 4th. Come early and while listening you can enjoy a fantastic BBQ Dinner sponsored by The Outlaw Bar and Grill.

Flashback: It’s about the band.

Flashback played for Rock the Port for over two solid hours. We jammed to such greats as Bryan Adams “Summer of ‘69,” Kansas’ “Carry on Wayward Son,” Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer,” and Robert Palmer’s “Addicted To Love.”
Mixing Tina Beveridge’s saucy vocals and Steve Grody’s amazing range would have impressed any crowd, add the Doran Brother’s Trumpet and Sax into the mix and everything flowed like perfect harmony.

Thomas Taylor’s attention to detail on rhythm, Mark Mainero’s keyboard work and Bob Starkie’s guitar completes a package that can only lead to one conclusion: Flashback is great because of the band.

The Sound of Flashback

Some notables

Tina Beveridge brought “Carry on Wayward Son” alive. Her soulful, swarthy voice was smooth with a slow burn.

Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4,” Steve and Tina’s harmony fit the bill better than the original.

Unfortunately the feeling had to end, and we all wait anxiously to hear Flashback play again.
